I realize that school just started and parents have their hands full getting their young ones back into a routine. Normally sane adults with school age kids are a little closer to the edge than usual. But really, when things go wrong in a store and you don’t get your discount at the register why would you threaten to call the police? Have people just gone insane? Last month Doug and I were listening to a sales pitch at a travel agency and this woman threaten to call the police if she didn’t get her gifts immediately.

In defense of baby boomers everywhere I have not heard of an older person involved in this nonsense. Perhaps one has, but if so it hasn’t come to national attention. Maybe it’s because when we were growing up a policeman always came to our elementary school and explained what they did. We were told that they kept us safe, caught the bad guys, helped find you if you were lost, etc. (As I grew up I realized that a lot of their time is involved in traffic enforcement aka giving tickets). What was never mentioned was that they were expected to be “enforcers” aka righter-of-wrongs at various retail and fast food establishments. This is because they’re not supposed to be.

Where do these people get off thinking it’s OK not just to call the police, but 911? I’m trying hard to eat healthier these days so I don’t go to fast food places very often at all anymore. Has the food changed so much at those places that it’s worth fighting over? (Not to mention being arrested for abusing the 911 system.)

On the west coast, another Mensa reject called 911 about her order.

If you’re seriously pissed off about something at a store a restaurant, just keep your receipt and call their corporate office later. Usually you’ll get your money back, perhaps a gift certificate too and an apology. (Of course that won’t work at a mom and pop place.) I’m not a world traveler so I have no idea if this goes on in other countries as well. I hope Americans don’t go overseas and act this way. If they do, please let me offer a blanket apology to the rest of the world from all of the Americans who aren’t crazy.

I had heard about this but had not heard the exact recordings. These women need to get a life and realize when something is not worth getting upset over.If they still insist an being such asses I think they should be prosecuted.

People who call the police over their fast food order seem to have problems with instant gratification. We’re told to “get it now” via advertising and it is expected, so when it doesn’t happen some go ballistic. To paraphrase Mick Jagger: You don’t always get want you want, but if you’re lucky you might get what you need. It probably won’t happen instantly.

“She are the manager” Huh? Did I miss something when I studied grammar? Please tell me folks like her don’t bother registering to vote.
