I happened across an article on CNN.com yesterday that mentioned new winners from the Guinness Book of World Records. I scanned the article to find a person of interest. Right away I knew who it would be. Anthony Victor of India has hair growing from the middle of his outer ears that is over 7” long- on each ear. Yuck. (Not that having hair only 3.5″ on each ear would be much better).
Since I ride in the car with Doug a lot and look at the side of his head, the subject of ears and hair coming from them is one that we have discussed on more than one occasion. (If you’re with someone 24/7 like I am it can be challenging to come up with new topics all the time). I guess it may sound shallow, however hair coming from ears just creeps me out. Everyone has something thing that makes them go yuck when they see it. (You know that’s true). I mean I don’t accost strange men in elevators to point it out to them or anything, but it’s just awful. The one good thing I can say about this is that at least it’s something I don’t have to deal with on my own body! A small, but very significant victory for me. (There are so few I bask in them whenever I can).
I’ve expressed my feelings about this to Doug and even bought him one of those small, personal weedeaters to take care of the problem. However, he tells me that he doesn’t have time to deal with it in the morning. I put it in the glove box and handed it to him while he’s driving. “It’s too distracting”, I’m told. The fact of the matter is, it’s just not important to him these days. I still make an effort to keep the more unsavory female ablutions out of his line of sight, even now. Now, if his unfortunate sproutage had started before we met, he would’ve been all over it, eliminating it before I even knew it existed.
I think perhaps some of my negative reaction to this is that the ear foliage signifies Doug’s entering the “Twilight Zone”. I know he’s not 20, 30 or 40 anymore, but he doesn’t act old, so why should he have ear hair waving in the wind, so to speak, screaming his age? His birthday is is 11 days. Perhaps I’ll get him a gift certificate for ear hair electrolysis for his birthday. I know that he doesn’t already have one. Besides, that’s a gift that will keep on giving- to me. Today’s trivia answer-the dog catcher.
