Did you ever have one of those days that when you wake up you just feel on top of the world? I’ve got one of those today. I have no idea why. My house is really a mess and, as usual, finances are once again tight. However, today I just feel really blessed. Doug went to Austin yesterday, picked up Brett and they’re in Dallas til tomorrow night. Since I’m all alone, Evelyn invited me for dinner last night. Since I’m car-less, Nate and Amanda picked me up on their way there.
Last night wasn’t a special occasion. However, when I started thinking about it today, it kinda felt like one. The dinner that Evelyn made was really great. Bad Michele even showed up for awhile eating the homemade mac and cheese like she was going to the chair. But that’s OK. I’m back to healthy eating today and she’s gone again. (I imagine she’ll show up a few more times before the first of the year, but so what?) There’s nothing she can do in a few visits that I can’t undo if I’m just vigilent after she leaves. Besides, I don’t want to grow old if I have to do it by eating nothing but roots and twigs, ala Euell Gibbons. Here’s a spoof I found on YouTube about Euell. Check it out from 5:17 on.
If you want to see the real Euell Gibbons watch below. Johnny Carson used to love kidding him on the Tonight Show. Actually though, Euell was just decades ahead of the whole back-to-nature movement.
Anyway, dinner last night was great. Everybody got along. It was truly stress-free; and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that how lucky I am. I’ve got a husband who loves me and still finds me sexy. (The lenses in his rose colored glasses are so thick they look like the bottom of Coke bottles). I’ve got two great adult kids who actually like being around their parents, and as far as I know we’re all healthy. I’ve got a really good friend who I’d give a kidney to in a heartbeat and 24 paws attached to 6 crazy but lovable dogs. Amanda’s in a healthy, loving relationship. On top of everything else, I’ve got this blog which gives me an enormous amount of joy. (I still can’t believe so many keep coming back just to see what I say). How crazy is that? I know it’s not officially Thanksgiving, but it sure feels like it to me.

Boy, can I ever relate.
Hector! I even relate to Euell Gibbons. The thing I don’t understand is WHY ON EARTH would loving parents name a nice kid like that “EUELL?”
Happy Thanksgiving, Kiddo. And many more to come.
xoxo
Mother Connie
Who knows. There was a very famous woman in the Houston elite many years ago. Her first name was Ima- and if that wasn’t bad enough, her last name was Hogg. Can you just imagine what she went through growing up? Her parents should’ve been flogged. Happy T-day to you as well my friend.
Thanks for the informative article. My wife’s calling me for dinner So I need to run off without reading as much as I’d like. But I put your blog on my RSS feed so that I can read more.
