And the winner is……..
Posted in Blatherings on 12/07/2009 07:14 pm by MicheleThe Amazing Race is the only reality show that I really care about and try to make sure that I’m home to watch. Sunday night was the finale of the fall edition of the show. The final three teams flew 6,000 miles to finish the race in Las Vegas, Nevada. Out of three teams that were racing for the finish line, the team that I like best won. The final three teams were a pair of brothers, a couple who are dating and a married couple. The married couple included a former Miss America. She must’ve had the Miss America judges snowed the year she won. I really doubt they would’ve knowingly chosen a whiny bitch to be a Miss America. Whenever there was a task on the race and her team wasn’t doing well she bitched and moaned and whined and nagged. This went on constantly. Her husband Brian appeared to be a patient and nice stand-up guy. I feel sorry for him and don’t know how he stands her. From the comments I’ve read online today I’m not the only one who feels this way.
I liked the brothers Sam and Dan until they started pulling some underhanded stunts. I don’t think you have to steal another team’s waiting cab or defaulting on an alliance to win the game. Nice people can finish first. A married team, Joyce and Uchenna won a few seasons back. They ran a great race and not only played fair, but went out of their way to help others if they could. I guess I sound a lot like Pollyanna, however, I don’t think you have to cheat to win.
After the requisite “old people” team got eliminated early on, I was hoping either Justin and Zev(who has Aspergers), or the father-son team from Idaho. The Harlem Globetrotter duo would’ve been OK as well. For the most part, teams gets eliminated because they either can’t figure out a clue or they just make a bad choice. Big Easy, half of the Globetrotter team couldn’t unscramble 5 letters quickly to form a name. (In his defense, it was a foreign name). When Gary and Matt, the father-son duo, got eliminated it was because Matt, who’s 22, didn’t know what a “candelabra” was. He kept saying candle-la-BRA. Maybe if he’s said it the right way he would’ve picked up on what it was- maybe not. At any rate, eventually, it seriously slowed them down and eventually was their undoing.
I’ve been thinking about applying to do this for a long time, since the first race in fact. I thought perhaps my friend Rosie and I could be a team. She speaks German and is still itty-bitty (always a plus if you’re needing help from strange men). However, a two woman team has never won. Some of the tasks require quite a bit of strength that most women just don’t have. I’ve thought perhaps Nate and I could give it a go. He is stubborn as the day is long when he’s determined to do something. That’s a big plus in this situation. And he has youth on his side, since he’s only 21. Probably though the best partner for me would be Doug. After 27 years we know each other inside out. That intuition can come in really handy in some situations. Besides, between us we speak passable Spanish. He’d have to navigate and I’d have to drive though. I hate reading maps. Not really sure how well that would work out. (Doug can be somewhat of a control freak). I bet there’d be a lot to blog about when I got back though.
Anyway, I think I’ll go ahead and send in an application. I’ve got nothing to lose; and if we’re chosen and I make a gigantic fool out of myself well that wouldn’t be anything new; and maybe, just maybe we might win.
