sled_dogs_raceAll right, I admit it. I’m acting like a little kid, but I’m excited; we’re going to get snow today- snow that will actually stick! We had snow last year on Dec. 10th for about an hour. It came right after sundown in huge, fat flakes. It wasn’t a very heavy or steady snowfall. I heard someone say it was as if God had dandruff. The snow today is predicted to be different. It’s 34 degrees right now. That’s going to be the high of the day. It’s going to be about 25 tonight. I know you Michiganders and folks in Buffalo, NY think it’s silly to make such a big deal of it here; but it is a big deal. It’s been the only thing on the local weather for the last 18 hours at least. I don’t believe it’s ever snowed this early in December before.

The news anchor this morning was saying DPS troopers were urging everyone to stay home today that could stay home. Folks down here just do not know how to drive on icy roads. There are some Yankee transplants here that know exactly what to do to get safely from place to place. However, most of the born and bred Texans don’t have the proper respect they should for icy roads. It can be dangerous if you get near a “Bubba” in one of those jacked-up, off road monstrosities. They seem to think that their monster truck is actually some magical rocketship with a force field all around it to protect them from harm. And with this in mind, they drive like it; thereby not only endangering themselves, but everyone else on the road as well. I can just hear them going “What do you mean slow down? I’m in my truck”! while they’re adjusting their baseball cap.

We’re going to be staying home. We were going to go to our Friday afternoon event. However, no one’s going shopping today if they have kids; everyone will be home letting their kiddos play outside. Besides, I don’t really have any cold weather wear- at least nothing appropriate to hang around outside if it’s in the 20′s. I had ski clothes awhile back, but they’re long gone now.  3″-5″of the white stuff is predicted. With that much we can have a snowball fight or maybe even make an anorexic snowman. Lucky for me I now have a digital camera so I can memorialize the event without the fear of running out of film. When I get some photos and some time I’ll put some up so everyone can ooh and aah at our temporary winter wonderland.

I think in all Doug’s garage clutter we probably still have Brett’s Little Tykes wagon. I wonder if I hooked all the dogs together if they’d pull like a team? On Molly, on Blondie, on Blackie, on Daisy. Gizmo of course would have to be the lead dog. (The alpha always has to out out front after all). Of course since he thinks he’s the most special because he’s the only purebred, Little Bit, Brett’s Pomeranian, would have to ride in the wagon, yapping constantly. I’ll let you know how all that works out.

The best part about snow is the Hot Chocolate! And Snow Days that keep kids home from school so the family can play board games and cook together. It’s a time for lounging around in yer jammies and not worrying about bedmaking or anything else. Well, if it’s not a blizzard, there are snowmen and forts to consider. Being a kid in the snow is an opportunity to make delicious rememberries!

BUT, that said, I’m hoping more for rain than snow because rain never has to be shoveled.

We never get enough to have to worry about shoveling it. I was just watching the news and they were encouraging everyone to stay off the roads. (I’m sure people from more northerly locations find that really funny). Some of the folks down here know our limitations!

Well, sweet thing, ANY amount of snow is reason enough for drinking big mugs full of hot chocolate. Enjoy your “winter wonderland” and do stay off the roads. You’ll drive just fine but those nutcases can make life complicated for the regulars!

Good morning Mother Connie. Hope all is well with you. Our winter wonderland is now but a distant memory. However it left the cold behind. I think it’s 26 outside now. Doug and I have a one day Christmas festival were working. I just hope I don’t freeze solid.
(I know I’m way too insulated for that). Have a great Saturday.
