The Lovely Bones wasn’t lovely for me

I loved the book, The Lovely Bones; so much so, I’ve read it twice. I eagerly anticipated the movie and saw it as soon as I could. I should’ve just stayed with book. For those that don’t know, The Lovely Bones begins with the murder of a 14 yr.old girl named Susie Salmon. I found the beginning of the book so disturbing I really didn’t know if I wanted to keep reading. My daughter Amanda encouraged me to continue. I’m glad that I did. It was a great book. And although the book dealt with a horrific crime, by the end of the book I felt good.
I consider myself a spiritual person- I pray. In the book, Susie talks a lot about Heaven and how each person gets to choose what is in their own Heaven. I like that idea. That wasn’t included in the movie; and I think it was too major thing to leave out. Overall, I found most of the movie much more “dark” than the book.
These days I’m trying to limit the amount of “dark” things I choose to bring into my world. I figure that I get enough of that by just keeping up with the news- e.g. the earthquake in Haiti. What I’m not sure of is how someone who hasn’t read the book would feel about the movie. If you see it, please let me know what you think.
