A lot of the articles the past few days are encouraging us to do something radical to start off the new year. Shake things up. Make a BIG change in your life. Cut your hair or radically change your color. Not me. My hair’s so curly it took me almost two years to get my hair long enough where I liked it again. Radically change the color? I tried on a blond wig once. (Not a good look for me). I looked like what my mother would’ve called a “streetwalker”. I did try semi-permanent color in a reddish tone- one time. Once again, not a good look. If I ever want to make a big change in my color, I think I’ll wait til I’m totally gray then really go for it. I could be a blue hair; but not that little old lady blue hair ( that’s not really supposed to look blue), but BLUE! Electric blue. If I’m going to make a radical change, it will be radical indeed.
Getting a tattoo would be a radical change for me. Our son Brett has encouraged me for years to get one. I still haven’t done it. Not that’s there’s anything wrong with that. I’ve seen some tattoos that I really like. However, I’ve never personally seen one on a woman my age that I thought held up well. (I’m sure there out there though). Another reason I hesitate is that it seems that bit by bit, my skin is turning into my mom’s skin. I noticed it first on my hands. I looked down one day a couple of years ago and there they were, my mom’s hands, looking back at me. It was terrifying. Who knew back when we were younger we should’ve put sunscreen on our hands? Sunscreen wasn’t even available when we were young. I’d hate to wind up with tattoo regret. According to a site Tattoo Facts and Stats only 17% of people have tattoo regret. I assumed the percentage would’ve been higher.
One of the funniest bits on SNL was a fake ad for Turlington Low Back Tattoo Remover. If you’re offended by a “bleeped out” word you may want to skip it; but it’s pretty funny.
So I was wondering- if you have a tattoo, do you regret it; and if not, would you get one now?

I like my tattoo. It’s a tribute to my pet rat, Snickers who died. Snickers loved to sit on my should and nuzzle my neck and lick my ear. He would fall asleep there too. Snickers was more like a dog than a rat. He would come when he was called and run to the front door when he heard my tuck. I gave the artist a picture of Snickers and he created a cartoon image of him and then tattooed that creation on my shoulder. A few months later the movie Ratatouille came out and people confused Snickers with the movie rat and for a short time I wished I had a different image on my shoulder or that Ratatouille’s animators had consulted with my tattoo artist.
One man heard from- a check will be placed onto the “No regret” side in our tattoo poll. Thanks Sean.
No tats for me. My skin is already sagging and if I ever lose weight it would be horrific. That is unless I wanted to do one of those fold together pages that Mad Magazine has. You know the ones where you see one picture and then you fold the page as indicated and it’s some snarky scene. I think I’ll pass.
I’m disappointed. I thought we might get matching BFF tats. Actually, I think you’re just looking for a way not to have to go to the gym. (We haven’t been in over three weeks you know). Time to start moving again, before our blood congeals.
I got my exercise today. I walked around the Memorial Hospital complex on Gessner trying to find the correct building. Since my son dropped me off, didn’t park in the usual garage and just got plain lost. 30 minutes later, I got to the right office and then the chemical stress test started. They had us sit in the kitchen (we were fasting for the test) where the coffee was brewing (no caffeine) and then they had cookies around. I was about to chew on the table leg. I was finally able to eat about 1:30. So I walked and fasted. Enough for one day.
All righty then. You get a one day pass.
