For the most part I think I’m pretty clued in to today’s culture- for someone of my age at least.

When I hear Brett and Amanda talking about a movie or a song I usually, sometimes, know what they’re talking about. I like a few of the newish pop songs, although I can rarely tell you who is performing them.

Doug on the other hand is clueless.

Totally.

Ten years ago or so the man didn’t even know that Sonic was a hedgehog. Our grown  kids laugh about how clueless their dad is. Now if Sonic had played sports that’s be a different story of course.

Every day on CNN.com in the Entertainment section they have a 5 “celebrities” caught on camera. Usually on a good day, I know maybe 3 outta the 5 people, usually it’s just 2 outta 5.

Today I knew 4!

It must be my lucky day! Perhaps I should get a lotto ticket.

I mean, seriously, just who are these people:

Jenna Dewan

Josh Hutcherson

Chris Pratt

They were featured in the entertainment section recently.

Do any of you know them? Or is it just me?

Doug and I were watching the last 30 minutes of the Today show this morning- the part without Matt Laurer (who I absolutely CANNOT stand. I think he’s a smug prig.)

Anyway, on Friday they have a musical performance out on the plaza by the studio.

Today it was Park JAE-Sang, AKA Psy.

When I heard his name I looked at Doug and said “Who?’

He didn’t know who it was either.

They said this video had over 150 million hits on You Tube.

It’s in Korean for the most part so don’t feel bad if you don’t understand the words.

Does anyone else know who this guy is or did Doug and I just stay down in our fallout shelter too long like Sissy Spacek in Blast from the Past?

I’m not ready to be dismissed as a little old lady just yet and have boy scouts help me across the street cause the tennis ball on my walker gets stuck in a grate on the street; but just how much should a baby boomer be expected to work at keeping up with pop culture these days so they’re not dismissed as dinosaurs?

Feedback would be appreciated.

I had heard of Psy but had never seen or heard his stuff. I thought it was totally cheesy and don’t get the adoration that the audience seems to exude. I will give it a small nod for being catchy but still cheesy.

I tend to be pretty up on current fads and such as I soak up worthless information like a sponge. Its the important stuff that I choose to ignore.

As far as Chris Pratt and Josh Hutcherson, I knew those but I didn’t know
Jenna Dewan. Now that any one and everyone can be a celebrity for no apparent reason, it is hard to keep up.

Who the hell are those people & was that supposed to be music? At least I recognized Brendan Fraser!

Who??? It does not matter whether they sing or talk in English or any other language, I have no idea who they are or even what they are saying. Like your other friend, fishducky, everyone wants to be a star. So I will just stay in my little world. I do not think I am missing much. LOL

  6. The only one I have heard of out of your post is Sonic the Hedgehog and I’m not even 30! Living outside of the US helps with being out of touch with celebrities and music even. When Branden was a kid, he wanted a Sonic tattoo in the center of his chest…if he did, it would be one hairy hedgehog today!

Soo funny it’s been viewed that many times.

I know who Josh Hutcherson is. I need to get in the loop for the most part though. ;)
